Annapurna Base Camp & Muktinath Trek

The Annapurna Base Camp and Muktinath trek is an intermediate level trek. Avid trekkers who are in good physical condition will enjoy this invigorating trail with stunning views of the great Himalayas such as Machhapuchare, Annapurn I, III, and IV, Daulagiri, Gangapurna and Nilgiri. It is especially beautiful to see the Rhododendron, the national flower of Nepal, blooming in March-April. This trail is also suitable for winter season treks as well, when the trail is less crowded.

The trail passes through the villages of Nayapul, Birathanti, Ghandruk, Chhomurong and Doban before ascending to the Annapurna Base Camp, 4130m. After base camp we descend to Chhomurong and then ascend to Ghorepani. Poon Hill, just a half hour climb from Ghorepani, is the point from where you get the best view of the Annapurna region. Then the trek descends until Tatopani (a natural hot spring) and again continues to follow Kali Gandaki Valley to the pilgrimage town of Muktinath. The word Mukti means Salvation and Nath is the word for god. Thousands of pilgrims go there for relief from their miseries and sorrows and to attain blessings. Its overflowing spring and the presence of certain natural elements such as fossils and fires create a supernatural field, a place where man comes to search for god on earth, a sacred world where Lord Vishnu and other deities are believed to abide.

From here you can choose to either fly back to Jomsom or walk back to Pokhara.
To visit Annapurna Base Camp and Muktinath, it is necessary to purchase a trekking pass from the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).
